9/20/10 Never go food shopping or stock picking when you are hungry – ADM, BG, CAG, CAT, CLX, CPO, DE, HNZ, K

I wanted to take a look at some past favorites and found myself without breakfast and looking at food stocks. Looks like I found some bargains.

For the most part November options are pretty much non existent so we kept to the options that look liquid and attractive.

*Note: the tables shown are embedded .jpg files. This means that you can: 1) double left click them with your mouse to enlarge them, or 2) right click them with your mouse and choose to open them in a new window or tab, print, save, etc.
As with everything we post, we may or may not have the stock and/or strategy in place in any one of our portfolios or may add it at any time.

Listing in ticker order

Listing in dividend order

ADM - As with most of today's stocks the RVI is high. However, the December $33's allow the pick up of the dividend. We like the Oct $33's with a daily earning of 0.1%.

BG - One of the best of today's stocks in terms of RVI. The only attractive date was October. Either option is fine with us. There are some things going on with the stock and fertilizer sector that Bunge has exposure to in terms of takeovers. Anyway the stock has been a favorite for us this year and we like the name, it's fun to say over and over again......

CAG - ConAgra wins the prize in terms of low RVI and high dividend. We have shown Oct $22's and Dec $22.50's. Depending on your situation my preference in this environment as always is to go near term and re-establish the position to realize the value offered in high volatility.

CAT - this is a favorite of mine and has done well for us over the years. However, the RVI is high. The choice of the three options displayed depends on your overall goal. For trading I would suggest the $72.50's, if you have held the position with a decent cost basis then go for the Oct $75's, otherwise the Nov $75's work just fine.

CLX - Again high RVI's. Note the options shown are for Oct and Jan '11. The January options provide the highest Day's earning without including the dividend.

CPO = Again high RVI's. Note the options shown are for Oct and Jan '11. The January options provide the highest Day's earning but this includes the dividend.

DE - Again high RVI's. Of the Oct options the in the money $72.50's offer the best SSR and says earnings.

GIS - We only found the near term options attractive. Not surprising, the closest strike price offers the best SSR. With the RVI's fair either option looks ok.

HNZ - Again high RVI's. We kept to the at the money options for Oct and Nov. Again the near dated give the highest daily earning.
